We’re looking for an experienced General Manager for The Royal Court Theatre Bar and Kitchen in Sloane Square.
This is a key role, following a period of change in the Bar & Kitchen activities, with scope for a candidate to make a clear mark, leading both the commercial development of the business, and ensuring a high level of visitor experience for our audiences and visitors.
The role will also include overseeing and delivering regular events within our building for artists, supporters, press and media, and private hires.
The ideal candidate will bring a positive, hands-on and entrepreneurial approach, with a track record of driving sales through being an exceptional operator in a venue that regularly has high volume periods. You will:
•Have significant proven experience in bar and/or F&B management, with a track record of event delivery and growing sales in a venue with high volume periods, including increasing spend per head.
•Be a people-focused leader who can inspire diverse teams as well as build relationships with key internal and external stakeholders.
•Have a strong understanding of business and financial management in this context, including experience of controlling all aspects of a Profit & Loss to maximise profit.
•Bring an entrepreneurial approach to identifying opportunities to drive sales and improve our offer – both long term and around different shows and programmes of activity.
Benefits
•Workplace pension, including enhanced salary sacrifice scheme for staff who have completed probation
•Complimentary and discounted tickets for performances
•Discount at the Royal Court’s Bar and Kitchen
•Cycle to work and season ticket loan schemes
•Free life insurance
•Discretionary days leave at Christmas
•Team social events
•Staff training and development budgets
•Employee Assistance Programme and other welfare benefits
About The Royal Court
The Royal Court is the writer’s theatre - the leading national and international force for championing, cultivating and supporting theatre writers. Through work on our stages alongside national and local projects, we pioneer the theatrical form, explore big ideas, empower new voices – and in doing so enrich and enliven audiences and communities through transformative experiences.
Our catering operation is delivered in-house by a wholly owned subsidiary of our charitable organisation, ensuring that all profits are reinvested directly to support and nurture writers and new work at the Royal Court. At the heart of this offer is our Undercroft Bar, open six days a week and welcoming both theatre audiences and the wider public. Currently, the focus is on providing a highquality hospitality experience for audiences, but our goal is to ensure the Bar & Kitchen operates as a fully functioning, commercially effective venue, with the potential to grow into a recognised destination in its own right and a vibrant social hub for the local community and visitors to Sloane Square. In recent years, the team has also delivered a successful outdoor bar operation on Sloane Square during the summer months, alongside running the Undercroft Bar, demonstrating our ability to adapt, innovate and expand the offer in response to opportunities and audience demand.
The Royal Court is committed to fostering an inclusive and collaborative culture in which everyone can do their best work. We are particularly keen to receive job applications from individuals with protected characteristics currently under-represented in our workforce, particularly including Black & Global Majority and D/deaf & disabled applicants
