Job Description
We are seeking an enthusiastic and detail-oriented Commis Sommelier to join our team at the luxurious Constance Moofushi resort in the Maldives. As a Commis Sommelier, you will work closely with our Head Sommelier to provide exceptional wine service and enhance our guests' dining experiences.
- Assist the Head Sommelier in managing the resort's wine cellar and inventory
- Provide knowledgeable wine recommendations to guests, considering their preferences and menu selections
- Conduct wine tastings and participate in wine education sessions for guests and staff
- Maintain accurate records of wine sales and stock levels
- Ensure proper storage and handling of wines to maintain their quality
- Assist in creating and updating wine lists and menus
- Prepare and serve basic cocktails as required
- Collaborate with the food and beverage team to enhance wine and food pairings
- Maintain a clean and organised work environment
- Stay informed about current wine trends and new products in the market
Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Wine and Spirit Education Trust (WSET) Level 1 or 2 certification preferred
- Strong knowledge of wine regions, varietals, and production methods
- Excellent understanding of food and wine pairing principles
- Previous experience in food and beverage service, preferably in a luxury hospitality setting
- Exceptional customer service skills with a professional and friendly demeanour
- Proficiency in operating Point of Sale (POS) systems
- Strong organisational and time management skills
- Basic math skills for inventory management and sales reporting
- Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings, weekends, and holidays
- Excellent communication skills in English; additional languages are an advantage
- Passion for continuous learning and staying updated on wine industry trends
- Ability to work effectively in a team environment
- Physical stamina to stand for extended periods and lift boxes of wine (up to 20 kg)
