Hello, I'm Esme.
Upbeat, driven and hard working bartender from Wales with a passion for mixology and crafting unique cocktails, with an additional interest in craft gins, scotch single malt and dark rum. Long term goal of opening my own bar.
Despite being a new addition to the world of mixology I have been working in hospitality and catering since I was fifteen years old, as such I have a wealth of knowledge and experience in regards to customer service, health and hygiene and efficient work practice in preparing orders for drinks and food. I’m a trained and qualified bartender, having attended a 4 week bartending course with the European Bartender School. This course covered recipe knowledge, liquor production, history and classification, flair, efficient bar methods and mixology. The experience and knowledge I received on this course and my current position as a bartender in Borassic Cocktail Bar in Menai Bridge gives me a great foundation in bar and cocktail work. As a highly trained barista and now, bartender, I'm well equipped to understand the art and science behind making a good drink and how to be efficient without cutting corners. This coupled with my training at EBS has given me the confidence to step behind a bar knowing that I have the skills to deliver drink orders at a high standard. All of my years within different cafes and restaurants, often working at two simultaneously, have given me the skills and adaptability to learn procedures and policies quickly, allowing me to step comfortably into new roles within a team. My work in Follow Your Bliss Cafe has provided me with a chance to enhance my creativity and confidence in recommending and crafting drinks and food specific to customers requests. This along with my natural passion and creativity for cocktails and mixology and my experience creating off menu cocktails and designing weekly cocktail specials and seasonal menus at Borassic allows me to fulfil customer requests, recommendations and questions regarding drinks whilst behind the bar. Moreover I was raised in a household that encouraged adventure and curiosity, including with food and drink. Consequently I have cultivated a knowledge and appreciation of single malt scotch whisky, craft gin, rum, tea and coffee. As a result I have the ability to discuss and recommend various liquors with customers and will always be happy to try and discover new items to bring into the bar. My most recent role as an acting manager of a cocktail bar has helped build upon my previous supervisory skills learnt as a supervisor of a catering department, which has given me a broad range of problem solving and management skills listed in depth in my work duties below. More so it has allowed me to tailor those skills to the knowledge needed to efficiently run a bar. Having had a job since I was fifteen years old (two, since I was seventeen) means I understand the value and importance of working hard and giving your all to your guests and team. I never shy away from a task even if I'm unsure of how to complete it or if it is an unsavoury job (e.g. cleaning fryers! Not a pretty job.). I'm an independent, self motivated individual but I also know when to ask for guidance and assistance.
