Hard Work
Juliette

Hello, I'm Juliette.

I am fascinated by food, drink and communication with different people. This is why I love to bartend. I am a passionate student striving to to engage with and learn from others, and study History at UCL.

I am looking for a part-time job as a bartender or waitress to do alongside my studies from September as well as full time this summer until August. Between January and March 2017, I volunteered with the 'Young Man’s Welfare Society’ in Kolkata, India, as a teacher. On arrival the work was unclear and disorganised, requiring high levels perseverance, patience and creativity to formulate a valuable project for the children. Last April 2017, I also spent one month volunteering at a learning centre in Bandipur, Nepal, with ‘Himalayan Voluntourism’. I was working with 30-50 children at a time, from ages 4 to 16, with one-on-one help with their English and school work. We played field games and sports, which required high levels of enthusiasm, energy and positivity from my part. During October-December 2017 I gave private tutoring sessions for Maths and English, with children aged under 10. This required high levels of punctuality, energy, empathy, creativity and kindness, to give the students the most effective methods for doing their work and understanding how to learn. In July 2015, I spent a week's summer volunteering with the charity PHAB with my previous school. We hosted 40 young adults and adults who suffered from learning and physical disabilities, and took advantage of school facilities to run daily activities. I gained higher levels of compassion, empathy, flexibility, creativity, punctuality and organisation as a result of this experience. Between December and May 2015, I set up, organised and ran a weekly drama club at St Matthew’s primary school with a friend. This required innovative ideas each week to develop the children’s skills in self-expression. In July 2017, I did a 4 week-international bartending course with EBS, where I achieved a grade of 85%. The work necessitated very high levels of energy, positivity, punctuality, efficiency, and creativity. I strongly developed my interest in wine and drinks during this course. Previously I had worked one month at PIX tapas bar Portobello, London, in June 2017, and also at Bandol restaurant near Chelsea for two months in the autumn of 2016. I think bartending or waitressing is a fantastic way to work hard and make money as a student while remaining social and meeting new people, as well as pursuing my passion for food, drink and events.
