Fotherby's On The Rocks

Large cocktail 'ship' and unique events venue on the shore of Freetown, Sierra Leone.

“The Fotherby” began life in 1972, as a ‘Fleet Tender’ vessel for the British Royal Maritime Auxiliary Service. It was later purchased privately and used to sail guests around the Turkish seas – before heading to the tropical waters of West Africa. Finally, in 2015, The Fotherby set sail for one last time, docking in Freetown, Sierra Leone – where she was gutted, cut into pieces, and hauled up on land. Here, her owners have been working furiously ever since, to not only lovingly put her back together, but also to turn her into something completely new: the best (and perhaps only?) cocktail ship in all of West Africa!

Located directly beside a historic 19th century lighthouse, at the tip of Freetown’s ‘Man of War Bay’, Fotherby’s new resting spot offers guests some of the best ocean views and chill vibes in the city. Guaranteed to become a true city landmark, the ship has already hosted a number of large events and private parties - and curious onlookers continue to drop by on an almost daily basis, keen to find out more, and to snap photos of the beautiful view.

Set to officially open in November / December 2019, “Fotherby’s On the Rocks” will specialize in serving a range of classic and contemporary cocktails, imported wines, beers, liquors and specialty coffees – all in a laid-back, friendly environment. Additionally, Fotherby's will feature a kitchen serving a limited menu of fresh seafood and BBQ bites for patrons to enjoy.

Note: All photos taken from events held at Fotherby's over the past year - with ship and deck still under construction.
