Travelling the world and working in a range of bars is something I've dreamed of since I started working in this industry over two years ago. Learning about this industry is a particular passion of mine and something I'm very keen to explore via travelling around the globe. For the past two years, I have been working in a restaurant progressing from a food runner to a supervisor. I have gained skills across all areas, such as serving people behind the bar during a busy night, to serving tables who are enjoying fine dinning event in a private function room. From my progression, my job role included taking charge of shifts, cashing up, dealing with any complaints/issues and making sure that each customer had an enjoyable visit to our restaurant. My high work ethic has allowed me to learn a lot of new skills, such as making different types of coffee on a coffee machine (training from Fracino) to a range of different drinks during a busy shift which gave me lots of versatility in my job and other jobs in the future. Working behind the bar, allowed me to bond with customers over my passion for alcohol, gin especially giving them an insight into facts they may not know about certain drinks as well as making them a cocktail to suit what flavours they enjoy. For example talking about Gin is a love of mine and the origins of where each gin came from. I am also able to change barrels, syrups and I also did the occasion stock orders for the bar. Another part of my job responsibilities was ordering chemicals which allowed me to learn how to judge par levels and order the right amount to suit the volume the kitchen and front of house would use on a weekly basis without running out. Furthermore I had to make sure the system we used to put orders through was up to date with any menu changes and everything printed correctly to the different sections. Finally each of the skills I have mentioned above, are all skills that I look forward to transferring into a new job as well as expanding further on my knowledge in the industry.
